Marbelite is a band made up of five very different people who all have one thing in common: they love music. It all started kind of randomly, with an online ad and a bunch of people who just wanted to make music. Now, they’re working on their first EP and getting ready to play more live shows. Here's how it all happened.
Amanda, the guitarist, was basically born into music. She started singing at 3 years old and later taught herself guitar. She’s been playing for over 10 years now. Karo, who sings and plays acoustic guitar, also started young. She took guitar lessons as a kid and performed in musicals during elementary school. Celine, the bassist, actually started with flute in school but fell in love with bass when she discovered the band Gorillaz at 16. She thought the bassist was super cool and decided to switch. Christian, the drummer, got into music thanks to his aunt. She had an electric drum set and he tried it out during a school day event. After that, he joined music school. Then there’s Sascha, who started out playing piano on her grandma’s old keyboard. At first, she didn’t even want to play but then she thought it was cool. She wanted to write songs and perform on stage after doing some school theater. She also sang in the school choir and picked up a bit of guitar at 15.
Everyone except Christian already had the dream of being in a band. Amanda posted an ad looking for bandmates, but at first, she only found metal people. Sascha was the first to reply, then others slowly joined in. When they met up for the first time, they talked and realized they still needed a drummer, so Celine asked Christian if he wanted to join, and he did.
Their first official rehearsal was at the end of August 2023. They met Christian during a summer meetup, and from there things started to roll.
Marbelite writes their songs as a group. Usually, someone brings an idea, sometimes just a little piece, sometimes more and then they all work on it together. The songs are about things everyone can relate to: friendships that fall apart, love drama, random life stuff, and even a song about cats. Everyone brings their own ideas and stories, which is why their songs are super personal.
At first, their music sounded very different depending on who wrote it. But now, they’re starting to find a more consistent band sound. They’ve all got different influences, so their songs still vary a lot, but it’s slowly coming together.
Their first gig was a small one, just 15 minutes at the WienXtra Podium. It was kind of a mess: they were nervous, didn’t know how to connect with the crowd yet, and even made a few mistakes on stage. But since then, they've become more confident and can now enjoy the stage much more.
Still, being in a band isn’t always easy. It can be tricky to balance everyone’s ideas, and sometimes they compare themselves to other bands in the scene. But they’re pushing through and staying focused on their own goals.
Each member of Marbelite listens to different stuff, which helps shape their sound: Amanda looks up to her grandpa, who taught himself guitar too. She likes bands like Twenty One Pilots, The 1975, One Direction, but also classic stuff like the Rolling Stones. Karo finds inspiration everywhere, from movies and books to real-life experiences. She listens to indie, alternative, and Taylor Swift. Celine had a huge 70s rock phase with bands like AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. Christian listens to all kinds of rock and especially 2000s stuff like Green Day, Blink-182 or Red Hot Chili Peppers. Sascha didn’t come from a musical family but got inspired by Billie Eilish at 12. She now listens to indie/alternative and some German music too.
Right now, Marbelite is working on their first EP. One song, “John”, is already out. The full EP will have five songs and should drop by the end of the year. Before that, two more singles are coming. They’re also part of the Planet Festival Tour in September. The big EP release show is planned for October or November, and they’re also playing at the Loop on August 30.
In the future, they want to release merch, shoot music videos, maybe even drop a full album, and hopefully tour outside of Austria someday.
Marbelite is still at the beginning of their journey, but they’ve already come a long way. From nervous first shows to writing songs together and planning their first EP, they’ve proven they’re serious about making music. And who knows? Maybe one day we’ll see them rocking a big stage somewhere far from home.
